United KingdomCedo, one of Europe’s major manufacturers of recycled plastic waste bags, revealed its Roadmap for Sustainable Business Growth.

The strategy is based on three pillars: People, Planet, and Products, and it includes goals for protecting the earth’s resources as well as attracting and cultivating talent within the company.

People

To better serve customers and workers, Cedo is committing to becoming more involved in the areas in which it operates, both as an employer and as a community member, while actively supporting local environmental, health, and wellness projects. Cedo seeks to attract young and varied people to join its two thousand-strong staff who are as committed to environmental sustainability as they are to innovation, thanks to its industry-leading focus on sustainability and attractive career and development prospects.

Planet

In terms of the environment, the company has committed to reaching climate neutrality across its global operations by 2030, as well as expanding its use of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. Cedo will also improve its water stewardship through explicit monitoring and improvement strategies, as well as through reducing overall water consumption in its activities. The company wants to send zero waste to landfill and has already met this goal in the United Kingdom this year.

Product

Cedo has vowed to use solely recycled, recyclable, or sustainable materials in both packaging and product design in order to achieve circularity. Cedo is seeking to substantially reduce plastics in its goods and focus more on the usage of raw materials through its eco-design process, which includes identifying the suitable raw material for each product and its intended life cycle after listening to customers in 34 countries. In the future, the company will only buy from suppliers who fulfill its ethical, environmental, and social requirements.

Renewable energy goal

Cedo’s Roadmap for Sustainable Business Growth, in addition to detailing its strategy to doing business, defines how it will work towards nine of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 3 is Good Health and Well-Being; Goal 5 is Gender Equality; and Goal 6 is Climate Action. Goal 8 focuses on decent work and economic growth; Goal 9 focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure; Goal 12 focuses on responsible consumption and production; Goal 13 focuses on climate action; Goal 14 focuses on life below water; Goal 15 focuses on life on land; and Goal 16 focuses on peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Cedo said in July 2021 that it is one-quarter of the way to fulfilling its 100% renewable energy goal, which will see it become a climate neutral corporation by 2030.
