The Netherlands – Sabic’s new hydrotreater plant in Geleen has been completed. The new plant is part of the advanced recycling plant for plastic waste. Construction of this plant is nearing completion.

Sabic Europe announces that it has taken an important step in the completion of the Sabic Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling (SPEAR) plant in Geleen. It is building this plant in a 50/50 joint venture with Plastic Energy.

The plant converts plastic waste into pyrolysis oil. The new hydrotreater for the plant has now been successfully completed. The hydrotreater upgrades the pyrolysis oil so that it can serve as feedstock for its crackers. The products made from it are certified circular.

Sabic has been blending pyrolysis oil into the naphtha for its crackers for several years now. The new plant will have a capacity of 20 kilotons per year. The company aims to produce 1,000 kilotons of plastics by 2030, using circular raw materials.
