United Kingdom – enfinium, a UK energy from waste company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eni UK to support the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) at its Parc Adfer site in North Wales.

The company enfinium has the potential to use carbon capture and storage (CCS), also known as “carbon removals” or “negative emissions,” to remove sizable amounts of emissions from the atmosphere. Biogenic material that has absorbed carbon from the atmosphere is then permanently sequestered.

At Parc Adfer, one of Wales’ two energy from waste facilities, this agreement marks the first step toward realizing this objective.

Powering UK homes

In North Wales, enfinium manages the Parc Adfer facility on behalf of five authorities. It saves 200,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste from the landfill each year and uses it to produce dependable, domestic energy that powers more than 45,000 UK homes and businesses. The company is certain that with carbon capture technology implemented at the facility, it would lead to the net removal of more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2 from the environment per year. Additionally, it would speed up the region’s attempts to reduce its carbon footprint and open up new prospects for clean growth.
