The Netherlands/Singapore – Vopak and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) have agreed to collaborate on the development of the CCS value chain in Southeast Asia.

As part of the MoU, both businesses will work together to research the growth of the CCS value chain with a focus on the CO2 emissions from Singaporean industry. Transport of CO2 from a Vopak terminal for prospective injection into the regional storage hubs built by PETRONAS is also included in this. The feasibility study also includes the collection of CO2 emissions from diverse sources throughout Southeast Asia. Both businesses intend to contribute to the creation of CCS value chain solutions.

Growing interest

There is rising interest in both CO2 emissions reduction and CO2 capture and storage on a global scale because both are essential for preventing climate change. The captured CO2 would need to be transported to these suitable reservoirs from locations lacking an abundance of subsurface geologic reservoirs.
