United Kingdom – The FEED contract for SSE Thermal and Equinor’s proposed Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station, which could become the UK’s first power station with carbon capture and storage, has been awarded to a consortium of Aker Solutions, Siemens Energy, and Doosan Babcock.
The consortium will deliver the engineering design for the proposed plant, which will have a generating capacity of up to 910MW and will be equipped with a carbon-capture plant to remove CO2 from its emissions, over the next 12 months. The consortium’s carbon-capture partner will be Aker Carbon Capture.
Leading CCS
Keadby 3, in North Lincolnshire, directly supports the UK government’s goal of becoming a world leader in carbon capture and storage, bringing the country closer to its net zero goal. The plant will be able to capture up to 1.5 million metric tons of carbon per year once it is operational, which is about 5% of the government’s 2030 target.
Keadby 3 is a significant addition to the Aker Solutions, Siemens Energy, and Doosan Babcock consortium’s growing portfolio of CCUS projects in the UK, led by SSE Thermal and Equinor. The alliance’s goal is to provide customers with solutions that help them meet their decarbonization goals.
