United Kingdom – Aker Carbon Capture and Storegga have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects and provide industrial emitters in the UK with full value chain offerings.
After becoming the carbon capture provider for the Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station last week, the company now has another UK milestone. Aker Carbon Capture is expanding rapidly in the United Kingdom, where the government has set lofty goals for the country to become a world leader in carbon capture and storage. The carbon capture company is opening an office in central London to serve its growing list of clients and partners, in order to meet rising demand.
Decarbonizing UK industry
In February 2022, Aker Carbon Capture began studying the implementation of Aker Carbon Capture’s large-scale carbon capture technology to support Redcar Energy Centre’s bid for Phase 2 of the Government’s CCS cluster sequencing process. The plan aims to store more than 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Aker Carbon Capture and Viridor, one of the UK’s leading recycling, resources, and waste management companies, announced a partnership in late 2021 to investigate the installation of five modular carbon capture plants. Viridor’s net zero plans could be accelerated by a decade to 2030, resulting in 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 savings per year.
The Acorn Carbon Capture and Storage and Hydrogen project in Aberdeen, Scotland, is being developed by Storegga. The Scottish Cluster will benefit from the Acorn Project’s critical backbone infrastructure. The Scottish Cluster brings communities, industries, and businesses together to deliver CCS, hydrogen, and other low-carbon technologies, assisting Scotland, the United Kingdom, and Europe in achieving net-zero energy goals.
