Italy – Eni and SEA have signed an agreement to promote decarbonization initiatives in the aviation sector and to speed up the Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate airports’ ecological transition.
The agreement is the result of a partnership that began in December 2021 with the supply of biofuels (SAFs) for private planes. The partnership has expanded to include commercial flights, as well as the supply of pure HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) biofuel for ground transportation and a joint development program for smart mobility services. These products and services help reduce emissions from airport operations and decarbonize airport-related air and ground transportation.
Sustainable products
Eni is Europe’s second-largest HVO biofuel producer. It can make sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) from waste and plant-based raw materials thanks to its proprietary Ecofining technology. Eni’s new “net zero carbon by 2050” strategy will allow the company to offer a variety of fully decarbonized products that are both environmentally and financially sustainable.
The agreement will assist SEA in meeting its “NET Zero” goal of zero net emissions by 2030, 20 years earlier than most comparable international commitments. It will also assist the airport operator in developing increasingly sustainable and innovative measures in order to maintain Milan Linate and Milan Malpensa’s “ACA 4+ Transition” status, the highest level of the ACI Europe’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program.
