United States – A consortium led by strategic partners Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime has been granted a turnkey contract for the world’s largest offshore wind project to date, Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, for Dominion Energy Virginia.
The contract calls for three 880 MW offshore substations to be built between 2021 and 2025 and commissioned in 2026. The three substations will form the foundation of the 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project’s electrical infrastructure. This is Bladt Industries’ and Semco Maritime’s third offshore substation project in the United States.
The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project’s scope of work comprises design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and installation. Semco Maritime will manage the design, procurement, and installation of electrical equipment, emergency systems, and inter-array cables, while Bladt Industries will manage the design, procurement, and construction of steel structures and jacket foundations.
Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind
The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project will be built 40 kilometers off the coast of Virginia Beach and will have a 2.6 GW capacity, serving up to 660,000 Virginia households and removing up to 5 million tons of CO2 emissions per year. Furthermore, the project is planned to create up to 900 employment in the surrounding area during the construction phase, and up to 1,100 jobs once the wind farm is operational in 2026.
