United State – DEME Offshore US has obtained a +$1.1 billion Balance of Plant (BoP) contract in a consortium with Prysmian for the development of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project.
Dominion Energy Virginia, a subsidiary of Dominion Energy, awarded the contract to a consortium comprised of DEME Group and Prysmian for a total value of +$1.9 billion.
This is the largest offshore wind installation contract ever granted in the United States. When completed in 2026, the CVOW will be the largest wind farm in the United States and one of the largest in the world.
The CVOW project will be critical in assisting the Commonwealth of Virginia in reaching its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2045. The project is about 27 miles (43 kilometers) off the coast of Virginia Beach, Virginia, in the United States. The 2.6GW offshore wind farm will be able to deliver sustainable electricity to up to 660,000 households while decreasing carbon emissions by more than 2 million tons per year.
The transport and installation of 176 monopile transition piece foundations, three offshore substations, scour protection, and the delivery and installation of export and inter-array submarine cable systems are all part of DEME Offshore’s CVOW BoP contract. DEME Offshore will be in charge of the entire offshore installation work for the foundations, substations, infield cables, and a portion of the export cables. DEME Offshore formed a cooperation with Prysmian, the world leader in underwater energy cable systems, to complete the project.
