Finland – Statkraft and Neste have inked a 10-year power purchase agreement that would allow the Finnish corporation to cut greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing power from a Finnish wind farm that is now under construction.
Deliveries to Neste’s Porvoo refinery in Finland will begin in mid-2022, and the annual total volume of the wind power deal is around 215 GWh, equating to approximately 18% of Neste’s Porvoo refinery’s energy consumption.
Delivery from Mastokangas wind farm
The delivery comes from the Mastokangas wind farm, which is currently being built in the Finnish towns of Raahe and Siikajoki. Statkraft and the project’s owner, Aquila Capital, have signed a power purchase agreement for this wind farm.
The agreement helps Neste’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint and reaching carbon neutral output by 2035 by reducing yearly indirect greenhouse gas emissions from electricity purchases at the refinery by about 53,000 tons CO2 equivalent.
