Germany – Chane is working in Duisburg, Germany, with partners from the public sector and industry to realize a new hub for CO2 storage and transshipment with the ultimate goal of CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage). This hub will make it easier for German companies to transport captured CO2 to subsea storage facilities in the Netherlands or further out in the North Sea.

Chane is already working in Rotterdam to develop the technology and commerce for the storage and transshipment of CO2. By extension, the company is now developing a point in Duisburg to collect CO2. With this, the company is adding a piece to the value chain for CO2.

The company is cooperating with Duisburg’s port authority, Duisport. Local authorities and companies are also involved. Chane says it has also formed a partnership with a “major industrial player with experience in this sector. The company also plans to explore the possibilities of converting the stored CO2 into usable products, such as synthetic fuels.

The plans are now in the preliminary phase. The partners aim to be operational by 2029.
