The Netherlands – OCI Global is selling its methanol business to Canada’s Methanex for $2.05 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2025

OCI Methanol is a leading methanol producer in the U.S. and, through OCI HyFuels, a leading producer and distributor of green methanol.

The acquisition includes the methanol plant in Beaumont Texas with an annual production capacity of 910,000 tons of methanol and 340,000 tons of ammonia, a 50% interest in the Natgasoline plant also in Beaumont, Texas and a methanol facility in Delfzijl that is currently not in production due to unfavorable natural gas feedstock prices.

The sale of the methanol business is yet another divestiture by the company. Last month, the ammonia operations in the U.S. state of Texas went out the door. Late last year, OCI sold assets totaling $7.2 bln in a short period of time, including a fertilizer business in the US state of Iowa.
