Netherlands – Uniper postpones construction of green hydrogen plant in Rotterdam. High network costs and uncertainty about sufficient sales of green hydrogen are blocking the final investment decision.
According to a spokesman for the energy company, pushing construction further back does not mean postponement. Uniper is in talks with the Dutch government about the high grid tariffs.
The start is now being moved from 2026 to 2028. Ultimately, Uniper will have expanded the H2Maasvlakte plant to 500 megawatts by 2030, says the group with coal and gas plants in the Netherlands.
Three years ago, Uniper announced that it wanted to build a green hydrogen plant on the Maasvlakte. Now Uniper has a coal-fired power plant there. Initially, the plan was to build a hydrogen plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts by 2025. In time, this could be expanded to 500 megawatts.
