Sweden – Wärtsilä will provide the know-how and tools for Swedish bioLNG project.

Using the Wärtsilä solution, agricultural waste biogas will be upgraded before being converted to high-quality bioLNG. Gasum AB, a Swedish firm, has placed the order for the installation, which will be put in place at one of their facilities close to Götene. Wärtsilä placed the order in May 2023.

The Wärtsilä offering will be able to produce 25 tons of bioLNG each day once it is operational. Before it is liquefied at -160 °C, biogas is purified by eliminating hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), and water vapor. It is totally compatible with fossil LNG and has the same calorific value and other characteristics, making it suitable as an environmentally friendly fuel.

Wärtsilä scope

The delivery, installation, and commissioning of the upgrading and liquefaction equipment are all included in the comprehensive Wärtsilä scope of supply. The project is slated to be fully operational in the beginning of 2025, with delivery scheduled for August 2024.
