Germany – The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Schleswig-Holstein State Government agreed to boost the hydrogen economy.
Both countries agreed that the use of hydrogen would become increasingly important in the future. As a result, the federal government is being asked to connect Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein to the European hydrogen transmission network “HyPerLink III,” which is being developed at an early stage by transmission system operator Gasunie.
Hydrogen pipeline
The planned hydrogen pipeline from Ellund on the German-Danish border to Heidenau south of the Elbe is critical to the energy transition’s success. To be able to supply hydrogen to northern German industry at an early stage, the federal government must assure that this project can be operational by 2028.
Additionally, the federal government is urged to remove legal barriers to Germany’s renewable hydrogen economy and to provide a long-term, sustainable financing framework for Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure. Furthermore, the idea is to include the interests of the two northern German states in the formulation of the federal government’s national port strategy.
