United Kingdom – In England, Scotland, and Wales, the Hydrogen Business Model (HBM)/Net Zero Hydrogen Fund process has provided finance for twenty projects with a combined capacity of 250MW.

The UK government’s hydrogen program has projects in development from Carlton Power, Octopus Hydrogen, ScottishPower, SSE Renewables, and ERM Dolphyn that have been shortlisted for funding. Contracts will be released in Q4 of 2023, and the first projects will begin operations in 2025.

Projects

Carlton Power has narrowed its list of potential locations down to three, including Trafford in Greater Manchester, Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, and Langage near Plymouth in Devon. ScottishPower has won funding for two of its Scottish projects: one in Cromarty, which it is building with Pale Blue Dot Energy, and one in Whitelee. Three projects, one in each of Scotland, Wales, and south-east England, are on the shortlist for Octopus Hydrogen and RES, respectively.

The remaining projects are Hygen’s Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen, Progressive Energy Net Zero’s Cheshire Green Hydrogen, SSE Thermal’s Aldbrough Hydrogen Pathfinder Project in Yorkshire, Hygen’s Gordonbush Hydrogen Project (GBH2), JG Pears’ H2 Production Plant at High Marnham in the east Midlands, and HyBont, being developed by Marubeni Europower in Wales. They also include ERM Dolphyn’s offshore wind connected demonstrator.
