Germany/UAE – RWE has signed deals with both ADNOC for LNG deliveries and Masdar for offshore wind.

Both ADNOC and RWE have agreed to supply the ‘Elbehafen LNG’ terminal in Brunsbüttel, Germany, which is located close to Hamburg, with their first shipment of liquefied natural gas. The German government has chartered two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FRSU), one of which will be operated by Elbehafen LNG.

It is anticipated that the shipment will leave Das Island, Abu Dhabi, for Germany in late December of 2022. The first shipment of LNG to the German gas market will arrive from ADNOC, totaling 137,000 cubic meters, and will be brought in by the floating LNG import facility located in Brunsbüttel. Significant progress has been made in establishing a more diverse gas supply and an LNG supply infrastructure in Germany.

A combined LNG import terminal was previously agreed upon by the Dutch state-owned enterprise Gasunie and RWE to be built at the Brunsbüttel location.

In addition, ADNOC and RWE have agreed to a multi-year MoU for LNG supply, with the first cargoes heading to Germany in 2023. Once ADNOC’s floating and land-based regasification terminals are up and running, Germany will be able to receive LNG deliveries.

Offshore wind

The RWE-Masdar MOU also includes a focus on expanding both companies’ offshore wind portfolios in strategic international markets. Under the terms of the MoU, the two businesses will examine potential in other nations.
