France – Hy2gen and its partner Technip Energies have begun the feasibility study phase of the Hynovera project in Meyreuil, Bouches-du-Rhône, with the goal of developing renewable fuels for aviation and maritime transport.
Hy2gen, through its subsidiary Hy2gen France, has hired Technip Energies, a strategic shareholder of Hy2gen, for this purpose. Technip Energies will be in charge of conducting feasibility studies with the BioTfueL technology marketed by Axens on behalf of the project partners.
The Hynovera project, worth approximately 460 million euros, will be built on the site of the former Provence coal-fired power plant. The project is part of a Territorial Pact signed by local authorities, the state, and the site’s owner to define an industrial renewal strategy for the site related to the energy transition.
Renewable fuels
According to a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2021 with Bionext and Axens, Hy2gen will be among the first companies in the world to deploy BioTfueL technology on an industrial scale as part of the Hynovera project. This technology allows for the production of renewable fuels like green kerosene and green diesel from wood sourced from ecologically managed forests.
Hy2gen and Technip Energies will combine the BioTfueL process with an 85-120 MW electrolyzer that will produce green hydrogen from renewable energy to further optimize the conversion of biomass into green fuels. Technip Energies will be in charge of the plant’s design as well as the integration of the various technological components.
