The Netherlands – SSE Renewables and Brookfield have joined forces in bidding for the 1.4 GW Hollandse Kust West offshore wind farm zone tenders in the Netherlands.
SSE Renewables’ experience developing, constructing, and operating offshore wind farms is combined with Brookfield’s development expertise and specialization in contracting long-term offtake agreements with corporate counterparties through its Brookfield Renewable platform in this 50/50 partnership.
At the start of this year, SSE Renewables announced plans to bid for the 1.4 GW wind farm zone. The company is collaborating with Microsoft and Avanade as part of its tender submission to establish a digital research project on the wind farm’s impacts on the surrounding ecosystem, and has recently chosen the Port of Den Helder as the operations and maintenance (O&M) base.
Brookfield is pursuing this collaboration through the Brookfield Global Transition Fund I, the world’s largest fund dedicated to energy transition.
Application
The Hollandse Kust West tenders are being held to award permits for the development of two individual 700 MW sites within the wind farm zone, which is located about 53 kilometres off the coast of the Netherlands. Each site can have a maximum of 60 turbines, each of which must have a rated capacity of at least 14 MW.
Half of the points-based system in the tendering procedure is dedicated to innovation. This is also the first time a potential developer’s financial bid has been included in the selection process, with the maximum bid in this tender being EUR 50 million. The application period for Hollandse Kust West closes on May 12th, with results expected in October.
