Germany – A new Joint Industry Project (JIP) led by DNV aims to improve the standardization of green hydrogen production systems that use renewable energy-powered electrolysis and thus are reliable, safe, and cost-effective.
Electrolyzers are hydrogen-producing devices that use electricity to break water down into hydrogen and oxygen. Decarbonizing the world’s energy supply can be aided significantly by hydrogen, which can be used to unlock the full potential of renewable energy sources. Interest in hydrogen is growing as the energy transition accelerates.
Electrolyzer certification
DNV collaborates with the renewables industry to develop new standards and practices that meet the evolving needs of the market. Electrolyzer and wind turbine manufacturers, developers of renewable assets, energy and chemistry companies, and more than 18 other industry partners are working with DNV to develop an electrolyzer certification scheme that addresses safety, performance, and regulation for electrolyzer projects.
Partners currently joining the JIP are BP, Clean Power Hydrogen, EDP, Elogen, Equinor, Frauenhofer-Gesellschaft, Green Hydrogen Systems, Industrie De Nora, ITM Linde Electrolysis, McPhy, NextChem, Nordex, Schaeffler Technologies, Shell, Siemens Gamesa, Siemens Energy, Sunfire, thyssenkrupp nucera.
