The Netherlands – In the Port of Rotterdam, Unifeeder Group has bunkered its first truly sustainable 100 percent biofuel from VARO Energy.
This is Unifeeder and VARO’s first biofuel collaboration, and it supports both companies’ goals of reducing the carbon footprint of European transportation and improving the shipping industry’s environmental impact.
The feeder vessel Elbsummer was bunkered with biofuel B50 in September 2021. (50 percent ). It then went through a routine main engine overhaul, allowing the biofuel B100 to be tested. During the Elbsummer’s recent call to the Port of Rotterdam, Unifeeder bunkered 400 mt of VARO’s Advanced Renewable Biofuel B100A.
VARO’s advanced biofuels are made from waste or residue feedstocks that have been certified. Biofuel B100 reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90% from start to finish and almost completely eliminates SOX emissions.
